10 for winning a Cy Young Award Antworten

After a restless night, hundreds of NFL players nervously checked their cellphones Saturday morning, cringing every time it buzzed. Tim Tebow was among those who got the dreaded call telling him to come see the coach and bring in his playbook. Teams had to whittle their rosters to the 53-man maximum Saturday, and although his release wasnt a big surprise, Tebow was by far the biggest name among the notable cuts. "I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback," an undaunted Tebow tweeted. After being let go by his third team in 18 months -- and with the season just five days away -- the quarterbacks chances of immediately catching on with another team seem slim. Several other veteran QBs also found themselves looking for work on this Labor Day weekend as the Giants released longtime backup David Carr, the Packers cut Vince Young and the Bills chopped Matt Leinart. Other noteworthy cuts included: --Eagles RG Danny Watkins --49ers LS Brian Jennings --49ers WR Austin Collie --Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen. --Saints S Jim Leonhard --Browns K Shayne Graham --Chargers WR Robert Meachem Those who made the 53-man rosters had a weekend respite before heading back to work Monday, except for the Broncos and Ravens, who kick off the season Thursday night in Denver. The Broncos held meetings and a walk-through Saturday after final cuts were made. Theyll practice Sunday, as will the Super Bowl champion Ravens, who are being forced to start the season on the road because baseballs Orioles wouldnt move their game in Baltimore that night. Among Denvers cuts was veteran running back Lance Ball, paving the way for the injured C.J. Anderson of Cal to make the roster while the Broncos wait for him to recover from a sprained right MCL. That makes 10 straight seasons that an undrafted college free agent has made the Broncos opening day roster. Two teams have longer streaks: Indianapolis (15 years) and Kansas City (11). The Colts kept 27-year-old rookie linebacker Caesar Rayford, a veteran of the Arena and Canadian leagues, and QB Tyler Bray made the Chiefs roster. "Its not an easy day because they all worked hard," Broncos boss John Elway said about the players who didnt make it. "We just dont have enough slots for everybody." Every coach calls this the cruelest day of the year in pro football -- even the Giants Tom Coughlin, whose birthday was Saturday. But Sunday might prove worse as some bottom-rung players who barely had the chance to celebrate making the team get discharged in favour of waiver wire pickups. Teams can also fill their eight-man practice squads Sunday. This could be it for Tebow, the popular but polarizing player who has provided both his supporters and detractors with plenty of fodder during his 35-game NFL career that includes a 47.9 completion percentage, 17 touchdown throws, nine interceptions, a dozen TD runs and 15 fumbles. Jettisoned by the Jets last winter, Tebow signed June 11 with New England, where the man who drafted him in Denver, Josh McDaniels, is the offensive co-ordinator. His three-month stay with the Patriots was decidedly lower key than his stints with the Broncos, whom he led to the playoffs in 2011, and Jets, but he still had trouble throwing the ball, posting a passer rating of just 47.2. Tebows last play with the Patriots, and perhaps in the NFL, was a 9-yard touchdown toss Thursday night to rookie free agent Quentin Sims with six seconds left against the Giants. Now Tebow is out of work again and maybe out of chances. "I cant predict that," Broncos coach John Fox said. "I wish nothing but the best for him, as Ive said many times. He did a lot of good things for us, was great to this organization and to this coaching staff, myself included. So, I wish him nothing but the best." Mens Air Max 2018 Grey . The Maple Leafs dropped a 4-2 decision to the hosting Washington Capitals on Friday.KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Atlanta Braves added to their extensive wave of long-term deals with their young stars on Sunday by agreeing to a $42 million, four-year contract with All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel. Kimbrel, 25, avoided salary arbitration. He was the last Braves player eligible for arbitration. Kimbrel gets a $1 million signing bonus and salaries of $7 million this year, $9 million in 2015, $11 million in 2016 and $13 million in 2017. The Braves have a $13 million option for 2018 with a $1 million buyout. "We are very excited to agree to terms with Craig, who we feel is the best closer in Major League Baseball," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. "He is one of the key pieces of our pitching staff and we are happy to keep him in a Braves uniform for at least four more years." Kimbrels arbitration hearing had been set for Monday. The Braves offered $6.55 million and Kimbrel asked for $9 million. The Braves have been busy locking up some of their top young players and avoiding arbitration with long-term contracts. The deal with Kimbrel came only two days after the Braves and right-hander Julio Teheran, 23, agreed to terms on a six-year, $32.4 million contract on Friday. The deal includes a club option for the 2020 season. Earlier this month, the Braves announced multi-year deals with a pair of 24-year-old hitters -- first baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielder Jason Heyward. Freeman agreed to the biggest contract in Braves histoory -- $135 million for eight years.dddddddddddd Heywards contract is for two years and $13.3 million. The agreement with Kimbrel allows the Braves to retain one of baseballs most dominant closers. He has 138 saves in the last three seasons, including 50 saves with a 1.21 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 67 innings last year. He earned one save in 2010 as his introduction to his run of three straight All-Star seasons in 2011-13. Kimbrel has a 1.39 ERA with 381 strikeouts in 227 1-3 career innings. The hard-throwing right-hander has been successful in 139 of 154 career saves opportunities. Kimbrel, from Huntsville, Ala., said he wanted to remain close to home. "Im very excited," Kimbrel told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "If I didnt want to be here, this wouldnt be going on. Were playing to win. This is where I want to be." Kimbrel can add value to his contract through a points system. He would earn five points each time hes an All-Star, 10 for winning a Cy Young Award, five for finishing second or third in Cy Young, three for finishing fourth or fifth in Cy Young, five for being the top Cy Young voter-getter among pitchers with fewer than five starts; 10 for winning an MVP award, five for finishing second or third in MVP, third for finishing fourth or fifth in MVP, and three for each season with 57 or more games finished. Kimbrel would be paid $1 million for 20 points and $500,000 for each additional five points through 45. ' ' '
